When Carpet Just Won’t Work, You Can Count On Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Flooring: Not All Heroes Wear Capes

There’s something particularly warm and welcoming about carpet in a home.  Although we all love the feeling of soft carpet between our toes, there are times and places where carpet is just not a logical flooring option.  In many of these scenarios, vinyl flooring proves to be a great alternative to carpet flooring.

The kitchen is one room where installing carpet is simply out of the question.  Kitchens are prone to spills, leaking pipes/dishwashers, and many different verities of cooking catastrophes.  Not only is vinyl flooring much easier to clean, but it is also durable and water resistant, making it the material of choice for your kitchen flooring needs.

I don’t know about you, but a carpeted bathroom is something I have yet to experience in my lifetime.  There are plenty of reasons for this.  Between the bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink, there are way too many opportunities for a wet disaster on the floor of a bathroom.  Vinyl flooring is really the best option in a room like this.  Of course, you can place rugs in front of the commode and bathtub for warmth, comfort, and safety.

Vinyl in the laundry room is another good choice.  Like the bathroom, the laundry room is known to have water issues, whether it happens while the laundry is being done or in the event of a leak.  Either way, you’re going to want to have a floor covering that can take the abuse and wear.

Thomas Baker, of This Old House, had this to say about vinyl flooring:

“This durable flooring shrugs off street grit, pointy heels, and sloppy spills while providing a slip-resistant and often cushiony footing that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.”
